It was time for Chris's favorite time of the day, well during the school day at least, Free Period. The hall ways were bustling with people who were hurridly going to their lockers to put their stuff away before they ran off to visit with the friends that they weren't lucky enough to have in their classes. Chris made his way through the crowds of people to find his locker. As he spun in the well engraved in his brain combination into his lock, he mumbled some lyrics under his breath that he was trying to remember until the next time he had a pencil in his had to write them down.
He opened the locker door and put his books carefully away inside of it. His locker was filled with books and papers, but he was probably one of the few boys left in the world who lined his locker with pictures of him with all of his friends and all of the good times they had had together. He looked at a picture that showed him with all of his family a few years back. Before the accident and his parents death. He suddenly lost all concentration and the lyrics he had thought of so carefully flew out of his mind. Well, easy come easy go.
Students were bustling around, quite a few of them bumping into Chris on their way. This was what he hated about schools. No one had any regard for anyone else. If you are standing somewhere, it didn't matter. Chris regained his composer, took one last glance at the picture, and then slammed his locker shut. It wasn't worth his time to worry about. He might as well just forget and go enjoy his free period. All he had to do now was find some of his friends in this mob of a hallway.

"Stupid jocks," Irene mumbled under her breath as she bent down to pick up her books. A couple of jocks just hit her with their over sized shoulders that made her books fall from her arms. She ran to her locker and quickly turned the dial around, then the other way, then back the other way. The locker popped open and she angrily stuffed in her books. "Just because they are the 'popular' guys, doesn't mean that they are the 'privileged' ones. Knocking down kid's books, bullying. Pathetic posers," she said to herself with a frown. Irene grabbed her drumsticks and shut her locker. She ran to the music room. Keeping her head bent to avoid any other people making her drop her stuff. Because of that, she hit a guy with her stick in the stomach. "Oh shoot, I'm so sorry! Are you okay?" she asked the black haired guy.

Chris had obviously been looking the wrong way at the wrong time, because next thing he knew he was being plowed through with a drum stick. "Oooof." Was about the sound that me made as he doubled over slightly.
"Oh shoot, I'm so sorry! Are you okay?"
The voice sounded flustered and truely sorry, so he supposed that he could forgive and forget just this once. Rubbing his stomache where the drum stick had hit, he looked up at the girl. It wasn't someone that he recognized, but he supposed maybe he could make a new friend this free period. He had after all been looking for something to do when she had practically shanked him with her drumstick. "Yeah. I'm fine." Chris said. "Where are you off to in such a hurry?"
The hallways had begun to get less crowded as the students all dissappeared into the random places at the school that served as good areas to spend a free period, so Chris realized that he had probably spoken louder than nessercary. He made a mental note to lower his voice next time.

"Oh, okay. It's good that you're okay," Irene said. She mentally kicked herself for being blinded by her anger and hurt someone else. So that's why anger is part of the seven deadly sins, she thought. Irene looked at the guy and recognized him. She saw him hanging around with some guys around school.
She laughed silently at the volume of his voice,b ut hey, the crowd just started to empty and the jocks finally left. She put a hand to the back of her neck and said "I'm, uh, off to the music room to pass time. Are you sure that you're okay?"

Chris managed his most winning smile. "I'm fine. I promise." No harm had been done after all. Being a little flustered couldn't really count as physical injury. "Do you play an instrument?" He asked, because she had said she was off to the music room. Normally Chris would feel bad about holding her up, but he honestly had nothing better to fill his time with, and she had siad she was only going to kill time as well.
In the music room too, Chris's favorite room in the whole school. Music had always been his rock, what held him steady with all that had happened in his life. He admired any one else who felt the same way about music, whether they played, or just listened.

"Okay then," she said as he reassured her. "Yes, actually. If you haven't noticed what just practically stabbed you in the gut, I play drums and guitar." Irene is usually proud to say that she plays drums and guitar but rarely told anyone who taught her. It was just too sad for her. But her love for music was just too strong for her to stop playing. It was her, as she would say it, sanctuary. When she played or listened to music, it was like she was trapped in her own world. She doesn't mind the other people around her, just herself and the music.

Chris realized the stupidity of his statement, after all not many people carried around drumsticks just for the fun of it. Though, he bet there were a few people who did. The ones who seemed to think that if they played music they would have more friends or something strange like that. He smiled at her, "I play guitar too. But I don't think I could ever learn to play the drums. That takes alot of talent." He said. And boy, did he know. One of his brothers played the drums and had tried to teach him once. An attempt that had failed miserabley.

"It does? Cool," she said amused. Irene had to be honest, she doesn't know many people who play drums or at least try to play. May be it does take a lot of talent. Maybe-
Irene cut short her thoughts when she realized that she doesn't know the guy she was talking to. She kicked herself once again for not even introducing her self earlier. Yeah sure Irene, music should be more important than your identity. Or should it? she thought. "By the way, I haven't even introduced myself. I'm Irene," she said, extending her hand.

When Irene introduced herself, Chris flashed her a smile. He had of course forgetten once again the technicalities of meeting someone new. "I'm Chris," He said taking her hand to shake it. "It's a pleasure." Oh sure, the greating may sound cheesey, but he always found that manners were the best way to win someone over. And if there was one thing Chris loved, it was making new friends.

Irene giggled at the little comment of Chris. Only a handful of people talked like that nowadays and it always made her giggle. "Charmed," Irene replied with a fake British accent.
She took away her hand and said: "So um, you play guitar right? Maybe we could start a band or something?" obviously, she wasn't an expert in small talk. Irene was in a band, but then she quit when one of the band members became a prima donna. Gosh, she hated those types of people. Thinking that they're better.

Chris smiled. If there was one thing in the world that he simply ADORED it was having someone to play music with. Another talented musician such as this girl would make an excellent 'jam buddy' as he liked to call them. He had been in a few bands in his time, all of them falling apart before they even took off the ground. To actually get somewhere with a band could be a huge boost to a music career.
"That would be awesome." Chris replied. "What type of music are you into?" That was always a good thing to figure out before you decided you wanted to try and put together songs with someone. The fact was, you could be good at something and like something, that another person just couldn't play or flat out didn't like.

A smile played on Irene's face. Ever since she quit, Irene wanted to start out fresh, a new start in the music scene. No snobby jerks and fame-greedy people. Just the passion for music. Plus, when having someone around to play music or jam with, the fun doubles.
"Hmm, I would have to say alternative and classic rock. Sometimes, I would listen to heavy rock. In short, it's rock. You?" she asked him. Irene silently wished that Chris liked the same music too. If he didn't, it would be really hard or find another person to play music with.

And as simple as those words passing her lips, Chris's day was made. "I'm into rock as well. Not so much on the heavy rock but alternative and classic rock are like the most godly form of music alive." Chris said with a huge goofy smile plastered on his face. This school was just filled with all sorts of surprises that seemed to want to make Chris happy. And he had no complaints there.
"How long have you been playing?" Chris asked. Still admiring her ability to play the drums which was a talent that had avoided him like a plague.

After Irene's ears heard those words, she smiled even wider almost looking like a psychotic. "Amen to that one my friend," she replied. Outside, Irene was looking just happy as ever. But inside, she was partying like the king of party animals. Who knew that there was another fan of the classics.
Irene turned her attention to the question Chris had asked her. "Depends on what you are asking," she told the boy. Irene lent back to the wall that was nearest to her. "If it was guitar, I would say, um, 7 or 8 years? But if it was drums I would say 7."
