Jake grinned, as he sat back on the pool table, one leg lifted slightly. It wasn't the first time that he had gotten the idea that his cousin might be a little interested in their dear friend. Though he knew he'd never admit it. "That, or someone was just trying to make her feel better about sucking." Jake could not help but grin wider at his implication, "That's a loftier goal, my friend."

"Sure, that's it", Russ said with a nod, though he really hadn't the slightest clue why Jake would get a funny idea like that. Chrissy was a big girl and Russ really felt no need to be overprotective of her when it was just the three of them. But if Jake was giving him an out, he'd certainly take it. No guy liked to admit they sucked at sports, even one like billiards. "I suppose you would know best", Russell joked back.

Jake let out a mocking laugh, as Russ ignored his implication. But then, Russ might not have even been aware of what he had meant. After all, how long had Jake been trying to kid himself he didn’t like Sierra? “Well, if we’re talking about anything else… yes, I probably do know best.” Jake teased, having always been a little competitive with the cousin who we closest in age to him.

"Don't be so sure of that", Russ shot back with a smirk, "not everything is a game of pool." He leaned against the edge of the table lazily and yawned. Class had been tiring, not the learning bit but the lack thereof. "So, any plans for the weekend?" He didn't have any plans yet but he figured Jake might have had something lined up.

How right he was; if only everything was a game of pool -- things would be so much easier. “I need to get a new pair of jeans.” Jake fiddled with a hole in the knee of his jeans. Mom had made Dad send him money for more clothes. He dreaded going shopping, but if he knew Russ -- he probably wouldn’t be so keen on offering to go with him.

"Er...how", Russ tried to come up with a positive description for the shopping experience but then realized it was Jake he was talking to and quickly gave up. "That's terrible. Isn't there some poor sap you can sucker into doing the shopping for you? Some needy girlfriend who would just adore handling your clothes before you even get a chance to wear them?" He figured it was a negative, seeing as how the only girl the two of them really spent a significant extended period of time around was Chrissy.

Jake let out another laugh, but this one was more of a scoff in ridicule of himself. Pushing off the pool table, he set his stick on the green felt. "Have you seen most of the girls at this school? They're so... east coast." It really put into perspective how great the laid back girls of Oregon were.

"Well aren't you the compass snob?" Russ asked with a laugh. Though he had to admit there was some truth to it. He kind of missed the girls from his hometown. They had a sort of openness to them that made them easier to connect with, easier to be around without being driven absolutely insane. "They're not all bad though."

Jake rolled one of the pool balls across the table, lazily. “Naw, they ain’t all bad.” This bad grammar would drive his mother nuts, but he had picked it up from his Georgian born father. “Chrissy… she’s good. But she’s not from here, either.”

Russell picked up two of the balls that rolled toward him and began trying to juggle them, failing miserably. After picking them up he set them back on the table. "Oh yeah, I forgot. She's from the west coast like me." He smiled and added jokingly, "No wonder we're the height of cool."
