Since that article was published, Irene vowed that whoever the editor was, she or he would pay. Trying to calm down her nerves, she decided to play to blow off some steam from her. Irene entered the theater, relieved that no one was there. Shutting the door, she lugged her acoustic guitar to the front and sat down of the steps against the wall, near the left side of the stage. Normally, she would hide behind the curtains, but she just wasn't in the mood. The zipper to her guitar case came down and out came the lovely Fernando. Irene tossed the guitar case onto the side of the stage and adjusted herself so she was facing the chairs. Started plucking the song that was too familiar to her. 'Stairway to Heaven' rang throughout the theater. She closed her eyes and started to sing. There's a lady who's sure all that glitters is gold And she's buying a stairway to heaven And when she gets there she knows if the stores are closed With a word she can get what she came for
Woe oh oh oh oh oh And she's buying a stairway to heaven
There's a sign on the wall but she wants to be sure And you know sometimes words have two meanings In a tree by the brook there's a songbird who sings Sometimes all of our thoughts are misgiven
Woe oh oh oh oh oh And she's buying a stairway to heaven
There's a feeling I get when I look to the west And my spirit is crying for leaving In my thoughts I have seen rings of smoke through the trees And the voices of those who stand looking Woe oh oh oh oh oh And she's buying a stairway to heaven
And it's whispered that soon, if we all call the tune Then the piper will lead us to reason And a new day will dawn for those who stand long And the forest will echo with laughter
And it makes me wonder
If there's a bustle in your hedgerow Don't be alarmed now It's just a spring clean for the May Queen
Yes there are two paths you can go by but in the long run There's still time to change the road you're on
Your head is humming and it won't go in case you don't know The piper's calling you to join him Dear lady can't you hear the wind blow and did you know Your stairway lies on the whispering wind
And as we wind on down the road Our shadows taller than our soul There walks a lady we all know Who shines white light and wants to show How everything still turns to gold And if you listen very hard The tune will come to you at last When all are one and one is all To be a rock and not to roll Woe oh oh oh oh oh And she's buying a stairway to heaven
There's a lady who's sure all that glitters is gold And she's buying a stairway to heaven And when she gets there she knows if the stores are closed With a word she can get what she came for
And she's buying a stairway to heaven. She opened her eyes and set down her guitar and put her head into her open palm set on her knees and sighed. "Why did this have to happen?" she asked herself.

Luna heard the singing from out in the hallway. She could hear the sorrow, the regret, and perhaps even a large dose of anger. Someone was ticked about something... she took a deep breath, and entered the classroom, just in time to hear the girl speak.
"Why did this have to happen?
Luna recognized her from the Gossip Girl column... evidently she and some other girl were involved in some uber complex love triangle... she didn't really know what it felt like to be in the local paper... but she was sure it wasn't a good feeling. She walked quietly across the room, "Hey don't worry... I'm sure it'll be okay."

Russell walked quietly down the hall, head lowered and face somber. All was as it should have been but his thoughts weren't nearly as calm as his facade would have had others think. But then nothing is ever exactly what it seems.
Could it be true? Did Irene really have something with Chris? Russell had never really thought about it but the two did seem like they would have a lot in common. At least it seemed a lot more probable than Chris getting together with Star. Now that bit of gossip seemed extremely suspect. Didn't the betas typically go after the large jock types? Well maybe thats just a stereotype, Russell told himself. After all, he really knew nothing about Star. For all he knew she might have been a perfectly nice girl who valued a soulful voice rather than large muscles and an even larger ego. But he wouldn't bet all his chips on that just yet.
Russell looked up to the sound of voices coming from the classroom he'd just walked by. Something about being okay. Russell doubled back and peeked in to find just the girl he'd been thinking of and someone else who seemed vaguely familiar. Fearing he'd be caught listening in on their conversation, the boy retreated back behind the wall. What was going on anyway?

From all the embarrassment and anger, Irene didn't even look up when she heard a voice. "And I'm sure it's really easy to say that. You haven't been published," she snapped. Shoot, what did I just say? I'm not that person. she told herself. Irene was not rude or liked to say those kinds of words. Unless she was in the midst of one of those preps. How she hated them.
Irene tossed her head back and gave a mournful sigh. "I'm sorry for what I said. I'm just under a lot of pressure and anger. Forgive me?" she said, finally looking at the person. There was something familiar with the girl, but Irene couldn't pinpoint what. Science class? Or regular schoolmates?
She looked behind the shoulder of the girl to see if anyone else was there. She could have sworn she saw some movement. Maybe just a trick on the eyes? Or was there really some person there? She could only wish.

Luna closed her eyes for a moment, usually her first reaction was to snap back, but that wouldn't help at all in this situation. So instead she just took a deep breath and let it out slowly, and then another. "Hey, don't worry about it. I understand-ish... the entire school now thinks that you're double-dating some guy. I'm only going to ask this once so don't take offense... Do you like him, like the paper says you do?" She hoped she didn't have to explain who the him was.
She really felt bad for this girl, her private business was now being spread all over the school. At the same time however, she felt a sense of relief... after all it could have been something about her. She shuddered at the thought. She noticed the girl begin to look at some point over her left shoulder, and had to wonder whether it was that the girl didn't want her company, or whether it was just that she was trying to figure out if she did or didn't like the boy.

It was surprising to hear Irene snap at Luna; she hadn't seemed like the kind of girl to take out her frustrations on anyone else. After all, the other girl just seemed to be trying to help. But Russell could understand the stress Irene was under as well. Gossip Girl sure was a menace. Whoever she was, she didn't seem content to stick to just the betas, omegas, and preps. She seemed to have a completely different angle, which made even a rebel like Russell a bit concerned. He didn't want anyone following around him or his friends and broadcasting things. That just wasn't right.
And then a question of interest was asked. Was there truth behind the 'story' GG had published? Russell edged closer to the doorway, unaware that his presence was not completely unnoticed. He didn't know why he cared but part of him just had to know how Irene really felt. Was it because he kind of liked her? Don't be an idiot, he told himself, I don't like anyone.
As he moved closer to the door, Russell shifted his leg but forgot the fact that he had some loose change in his pocket. It spilled out onto the floor, making a sound that he knew could not be ignored by the two girls in the classroom. Stumbling forward into their view, Russell tried to play it cool, as if he'd just been passing by. Quickly he picked up the fallen coins. "Sorry, did I interrupt something?"

Irene wasn't surprised by the question. Actually, she was expecting these questions. "Well, no. Not at all. Wait, let me re-phrase it," she stammered. Okay, you like Chris as a friend. But not like as in like-like. . Voices swam in her head, confusing her every thought. Why does these things have to be so hard? she asked herself.
Irene cleared her throat and tried to talk clearly. "I don't like him-," she was cut of by the sound of coins dropping onto the ground. She shot her head up to see a guy, a bit older than her, maybe a few months or so. Great, more people to bug me. Who's next, the janitor? Irene told herself. But she had to admit, the guy was sort of cute. "Um, I, um," she started to say. She looked at the the other girl with pleading eyes, hoping that she would understand that she didn't know what to say.

Luna jumped when coins hit the floor. One look at Irene made her want to laugh and cry, heavens above the girl was really confused... and the gossip girl wasn't helping anything out. She took a deep breath and turned towards the boy, she could tell that he wasn't being completely honest... but then, who in this room was. "So how long have you been evesdropping?" She spoke calmly, as if she wasn't surprised at all about being listened in on. A strange suspicion formed in her mind, but she didn't want to voice it. Not in front of Irene... who just might take the heads off both of them (or at least try to) if she did.
She placed her hands firmly on her hips, wondering just who else was going to come through the door, or was listening outside of it. "Are there any more of you out there?" Her voice had the tone of an interrogation, she was out for information, mostly because she didn't want to be written about...
She shot a look at Irene, and saw the pleading in her eyes. She sighed... and understood.

Irene's lack of eloquence made Russell tilt his head to the side in confusion. Was she okay? Apparently she was a little more shaken up by his interruption than he'd expected her to be. Strange, he thought but he figured it had more to do with Luna's question than anything else. And now he looked like he was spying on her. Well, he had been. But it wasn't done for creepy or malicious reasons. He had only been curious as to whether gossip girl's article had any ring of truth to it.
Russell crossed his arms uncomfortably as Luna stated the obvious question. It was a little annoying how perceptive she was. But before answering her question in his usual sarcastic fashion he stopped and reminded himself that it was he who was wrong and she wasn't asking or insinuating anything too unreasonable. "Um.." How to begin then? "Not very long. I mean I wasn't technically eavesdropping. I just heard voices coming from here and then you mentioned Gossip Girl. I admit even I was curious about that. I know that Chris guy, I just wondered the same as you..." He shrugged his shoulders before adding, "And no, I didn't happen to see anyone else."
The boy turned to look at Irene again. "Sorry. I know its not really any of my business. It's rotten of whoever she is to write that stuff about you and Chris. Regardless of whether there was any truth to it, nobody has a right to broadcast your life like that."

After being shaken up a bit, Irene loosened up a bit and just dazed off. She needed space to think, or open up to somebody. Take door number 1 or two?, she thought to herself. She was thinking of just keeping everything bottled up, but after sometimes, you just have to open up.
Irene turned her head towards Russell when she sensed that he was saying something to her. "No, it's okay. I understand what you mean, I think," she replied. It's now or never, she told herself. The girl turned to look at both of them and started to say: "Just to be clear, I don't like Chris as in 'like-like'. He's cool and all, but I prefer him to be just a friend. You know what I mean?" Irene silently hoped that they wouldn't get any ideas about her and Chris.

Luna smiled in complete understanding. "Of course we understand what you mean."She included Russell in that we, and shot him a look that told him so, "There are boyfriends and then there are boy-friends. You want chris to be the second kind." She knew that Irene would understand what she was saying, after all Irene was a girl, it tended to be the guys who got lost in these situations. So she turned to look at Russell, to offer further explanation if needed.
She honestly believed that there was a clear difference between the language men spoke, and the one women spoke. It was hard to explain... but there were things that women heard in the spoken word that men didn't, and then there were things that men heard that women didn't. She was certain that Irene would hear the hyphen in the boy-friend... even if Russell didn't.
